What Cookies Are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They let a site recognize your browser across page loads and visits, remember your preferences, and — for some categories — help us understand how the site is used. We also use closely related technologies (such as local storage) for similar purposes; references to "cookies" in this policy cover those technologies too.
Categories of Cookies We Use
Strictly necessary and session cookies keep you logged in to your Standard ESG account, maintain session security including CSRF protection, and enforce role-based and tenant-scoped access to your organization's assessment data — these are required for the site and platform to function, so you cannot opt out. Preference cookies remember settings such as your selected language and, for accounts with access to more than one organization, which one you're currently acting on behalf of; you can opt out, though the site may reset to defaults each visit if disabled. We do not currently use analytics cookies or any analytics provider, so that category does not apply. We also do not currently use any marketing or advertising cookies.
We do not use cookies to profile individuals for advertising on third-party sites, and we do not use cookies to access data submitted through the assessment platform beyond what is required for the strictly necessary category above.
Cookie Inventory
This table reflects the cookies actually set by standardesg.org and the assessment application, confirmed against the source code as of July 30, 2026. All are first-party; none are set by a third-party provider.
The sesg_session cookie authenticates your session and keeps you signed in, for up to 12 hours from login or until you sign out. The sesg_csrf cookie provides cross-site request forgery protection for actions that change your data, lasting the same up to 12 hours as sesg_session. The sesg_active_tenant cookie remembers which organization you're currently acting on behalf of, for accounts with access to more than one, for up to 12 hours. The PARAGLIDE_LOCALE cookie remembers your selected language, for up to 400 days. All four are first-party.
In addition, we use browser local storage (not a cookie, but covered by this policy) to remember whether you've already responded to the cookie banner described in Section 4, so it doesn't reappear on every visit.
How We Obtain Consent
On your first visit, a cookie banner lets you accept or decline. As of this policy, we do not deploy any analytics or marketing cookies, so there is currently nothing non-essential to accept or decline: the strictly necessary and preferences cookies listed in Section 3 are set regardless of your choice, because the site and platform cannot function without them. Your choice is remembered so the banner does not reappear. If we introduce analytics or marketing cookies in the future, we will update this policy and, where required by applicable law (for example, in the EU/UK), only set those cookies after you give affirmative consent.
Managing Your Preferences
Your choice on the cookie banner is remembered in your browser so it does not reappear on later visits; clearing your browser's storage for standardesg.org will reset it and show the banner again. You can also control cookies directly through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting them; note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from logging in or using the assessment platform.
Third-Party Cookies
We do not currently use any third-party service that sets its own cookies on standardesg.org — every cookie listed in Section 3 is first-party. If we introduce a third-party service that sets cookies (for example, an analytics provider), we will list it here and that provider's own privacy and cookie practices will apply to the data it collects.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy as our use of cookies changes. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date above.
